Laugh Link: Opinions

Laugh Link Opinions

If you publicly state your employer on twitter, it seems that it’s policy to have a disclaimer saying “opinions are my own”. Which always makes me wonder how incredibly lame the employer is.

Laugh Link Opinions

I know, I know. It’s a disclaimer. It’s someone covering their ass. And we all have to do that these days to some degree. It leads into the discussion that you are your job and implies that your employer owns your intellectual property at all times. And many other issues that are many, complex & probably not funny.

Seeing as this is Laugh Link day, I’ve decided to mock this concept (because it’s funny and because I find it ridiculous)

Opinions are my own because:

  • My name may be Vanessa, but I’m not a fembot.
  • You can’t afford to buy my opinion.
  • I find it hard to shut up about my opinion.
  • They cancelled Firefly, man!

What would your ultimate “opinion” disclaimer be?

  1. A lot of workplaces now have policies dictating how employees represent their opinions on social media- mine does! I think it’s fair enough if people are going to make inflammatory statements online. My opions are my own because I’m surely the only one clever enough to come up with them 😉

    1. I think it’s fair enough but only if you identify yourself as a part of that group willingly. Even if I had a permanent position instead of casual I wouldn’t be identifying myself, purely because it’s just not all that relevant.

  2. I just don’t mention my employer at all. If I pretend I’m unemployed I can have any opinion I lIke

    1. Mine isn’t mentioned by name anywhere. I’m sure given enough stalking people could work it out but then again I also do random contract stuff so….

  3. Shit I basically need a disclaimer over my head for every time I speak to someone!! x

    1. I feel like that sometimes…or a lot of times.

  4. Oh god, I find myself adding disclaimers to my blog ALL the time. Hello world! See this tongue? Yes? It is firmly in cheek, mmmkay? Disclaimer: I am a smart-ass jerk. As you were.

Haha yes I sent one of your blog posts to my husband to read and he loved the disclaimer on it. 🙂

  5. “All thoughts and opinions expressed here are not mine but are controlled by the microbots that were implanted when I was abducted by a super race of Alien Overlords” … Should be able to say just about anything with this little disclaimer on board

Haha I like this! Not sure if it will fit into twitter though 🙂
