New Laptop

New Laptop!

Well, land of internet, I did it! I bought myself a new laptop, thanks to a bank account I had entirely forgotten existed. Frankly, it’s no beauty and I’m already annoyed at it because, well, Windows, but at the same time, I also don’t care because yay I have a small portable laptop and I can do stuff and get stuff done and when I’m finished uninstalling stuff it will have Open Office, Chrome, Evernote and not much else and that’s exactly what I wanted.

Speaking of uninstalling stuff – holy crap man how much random shit software does a computer need to come with?! I don’t need three million cloud accounts for three million bits of software I will never, ever use!

I bought an 11″ Acer Aspire E3-112-C6YY, if you’re interested. I ended up getting it for $284.05 from Officeworks. They had it for $319 but Dick Smith had it for $299 and Officeworks price match and discount a difference too. So all up, not bad, really.

It has been MANY years since I’ve bought a new Windows computer, and I forgot how much I hated all their auto-settings – I need to go through and change all the start up loading and whatnot. Only it has been so long, I’ve kind of forgotten what to change. Nevermind, Google will save me, I’m sure.

When did you last buy a new computer? And Windows 8 tips? Any tips for dealing with being in shock at actually buying a Windows computer somewhat unwillingly?

  1. I just recently bought a new laptop and changed nothing on it. Not even the wallpaper. I remember a time when I would have customised every single thing within hours of unpacking the thing. That may have been before the internet.

Haha I was a bit more compelled to customise this one as it’s only a little netbook, so I need it decluttered to keep its little processing power where I want it.

  2. I had to ‘downgrade’ from a MAC to a windows laptop a year or so ago due to budget constraints and I hate windows 8. I even have the touch screen thingy and it is still shit. I have no advice, just grin and bear it and curse your way through it. Not very positive, sorry. At least you are mobile and working.

Yep, that’s what I figure. I can type on it and that’s all that matters.

  3. Congrats on the new laptop! I bought myself a macbook in Jan this year…moved from Windows to Apple. I didn’t want another Windows because well, Windows 8. I helped my previous housemate once and found Windows 8 really hard to navigate. Good bargain for you though…love the price match deals! 🙂

It was a great bargain, but I do miss my Mac! Thankfully our desktop is a Mac.

  4. Oh, very fancy! I’m in the midst of relearning Windows for my new job so sorry, no tops here. I need them myself!

I’m hating Windows 8, so I’m pinning the few bits of software I use to the task bar so I don’t have to pay any attention to the rest of the Windows operating system…

  5. I just got a new MacBook Air for Tafe and I am loving it! It’s nice to actually be able to get Tafe work done at Tafe rather than having to wait until I get home to use the iMac or suffer through my old, about to burn out laptop. A new computer is such a fun thing!
