The Internet Has Made Me Scared

the internet has made me scared

The Internet has made me scared to complain about lack of sleep.

It’s true.

The past few weeks I’ve had shit sleep and I’m feeling it. I’m cranky, I’m overtired & the world is doom and gloom.

And that’s fine. Kind of. I know I feel like that when I’m not sleeping properly. I know that sleeping will fix it.

the internet has made me scared

So why am I scared to talk about it? Because of parents. As soon as I mention on the Internet that I’m tired, there are people who will reply and tell me how they haven’t slept more than two hours a night in ten years because of their kids

Or something like that.

If you read Kiki & Tea (and I highly recommend you do, and I’m not just saying that because I write over there) then you may have seen this post yesterday about why being grateful doesn’t really work.

TL;DR version: Bad is bad.

Here’s the thing. I know that less than 8 hours of sleep per night and/or interrupted sleep will make me feel like shit.

As you know, I’m not a fan of busyness competitions. And it’s the same for tiredness competitions.

Just let me be tired if I am!

Do you feel like someone always has to outdo you in the tiredness stakes?

  1. Totally! I struggle if I have less than 7hrs of sleep, but if I say something at work, I feel bad because there is someone who has insomnia problems and another who has young kids…so it always gets a response like “oh I WISH I could have 7 hours!”. Just let me be tired, because it is my reality!

    1. Yes! Your reality is just that. Nothing less or more.

  2. I loathe all the competitions. If you’re tired, you’re tired and that is a sucky way to be. You should feel free to vent without having someone try to one-up you on the tiredness factor. It sucks to be tired, any kind of tired for any amount of time and that’s that. I hope you get some rest soon. x

Thanks – much better now it’s a long weekend 🙂

  3. What Maxabella said!
I used to be a very competitive person, and now I save it for things that matter. (Like board games 🙂 ). Everyone just needs to be who they are without feeling as if that’s somehow wrong or not enough.
Be tired if you wanna be!
(PS I’ve also been crazy tired but can’t vent on FB either cause Boatman will be all like ‘that’s because you READ all night!’ It’s totally self inflicted.)

    1. Ah, now that’s an advantage to not having your husband on Facebook…he can’t complain at me if I do something like that haha.

  4. I hate it when you tell someone you’re tired and they automatically have to compare it to themselves. No, it’s not about you, you asked how I was feeling! Pfft – feel tired, it is ok. I have sympathy for you simply because I know what tired feels like.

Yes, just straight acknowledgement is all that’s needed sometimes.

  5. My name for people who always have to go one better – “The Topper” (from Dilbert comics).
    Get some sleep girl x

  6. Wishing you a really good night sleep, and another one, and so on. Don’t be afraid to vent if it helps. I wish I had some proven sleep remedies to offer you but I do find if you try to meditate before you go to bed you can rest better.

  7. I hate the martyr competitions! My mother tries to do it to me and I now respond with, if you don’t want to do it then don’t. I don’t understand people who seem to willingly sign up for something and then complain about it the whole time.

  8. […] there’s one thing parents tell non parents it’s how tired they are. Heaven forbid if a non parent is tired or has insomnia. I think this car will have an amazing type of tint over it that acts like a layer […]
