I Had Better Enjoy It

I had better enjoy it - don't save the things you like for the future, enjoy them now.

Saving feels drilled into me. Not so much money (though that’s always a good thing) but items. Keep them for later. For when you can really enjoy it. For when it’s right to use them. If I use it now, it might be wrong and I might not enjoy it.

I wouldn’t use novelty erasers because then they would be wasted. (I’m not quite sure how, but I ended up with a small box of them in my house the other year from my childhood.)

I had better save it for something else. A better time. A better place.

I had better enjoy it - don't save the things you like for the future, enjoy them now.

You know what I did with all those novelty erasers?

Pretty sure I either threw them out or gave them to someone. Either way, they’re not in my linen cupboard anymore.

I’m making an effort this year to use things that I’ve bought for me. I will be using the notebooks that I bought.

Now, if anyone can convince me to use my leather-bound, parchment style notebook, you’ll have achieved a great victory.

Do you struggle to use “good” things, or do you dive right in when you get them?

  1. If it were me, I would get my finest pen, and start an epic fiction novel… hmmm that’s a good idea… maybe I should take my own advice…

Like I need any more writing projects!
…but maybe I’ll start a kind of journal thing in it. I kept looking at Kiki K’s inspiration type ones but kind of wanted a combination of them all.

  2. I can completely relate to this – especially the notebooks! I have so many gorgeous notebooks that I collect and never use. I too have started using things this year – not quite up to the stage of using the good crystalware to drink my white wine out of yet but who knows… 🙂

Haha well my wine glasses are plastic from the $2 shop… I never got into caring what my kitchenware is like. If the bowl holds food, it’s a win in my book.

  3. How freaky… I finally wrote & scheduled a post that goes live tomorrow pretty much on the same topic haha we must both have realised how much stuff we waste by waiting. For me it’s more like fancy pamper type stuff for gifts or the coloured pens from Typo. But I too vow to use it and stop hoarding it. See… It’s clearly a great idea 😉

I love Typo…I spent about 10mins in one today and walked out without buying. Score one for self control haha.

  4. Oh I hear you! I remember receiving the most gorgeous teddy bear candle as a kid, and I wouldn’t burn it. It collected dust and got thrown out. Now I have the same issue with scented candles.
I was also the same with erasers.
I like the idea of using things. That’s what they are there for after all!

I’m starting this week with one of the notebooks I bought recently because I’ve just filled an old one.
